James Blunt joins Chris Difford for the first episode of I Never Thought it Would Happen Series 4

We kick off Series 4 of I Never Thought It Would Happen with none other than James Blunt. Having first announced himself to the world with his record-breaking 2004 debut Back to Bedlam, James has since released 6 more studio albums and played some of the biggest stages around the world.

This podcast finds him sitting down with host Chris Difford to take a look at his life and how he became interested in music. Although James is now recognised worldwide as a singer-songwriter, he was initially destined for a career in the army and the pair discuss how he eventually made his move to work in music. In particular they speak about the positive influence of Elton John, who offered invaluable support when James was just starting out. 

Chris and James also discuss songwriting in general. James offers fantastic anecdotes about a co-writing session with Ed Sheeran and the time he asked AI to write a James Blunt verse. Both stories are not to be missed!

This episode also features a contribution from a musician we have recently supported, singer-songwriter Angharad Jenkins. Having initially made her name as a founding member of the celebrated Welsh folk group Calan, she has since written a solo record called Motherland. Angharad describes the album as ​“an outpouring of self-expression on becoming a mother for the first time”, having written all the album’s songs during a six-month period in lockdown. We were able to support her with the album’s mastering and PR, as well as content creation.
