Introducing our first Music Minds Matter Allies
Our Allies programme aims to ensure everyone working in music knows they have somewhere to turn for their mental health and wellbeing
We are excited to announce that organisations across the music industry are coming together to become Music Minds Matter Allies.
Launched by our charity Music Minds Matter, this initiative aims to ensure that everyone working in music knows where to turn for support regarding their mental health and wellbeing.
On World Mental Health Day 2024, six organisations became our first Allies: BIMM Music Institute, BPI (British Phonographic Industry), Featured Artist Coalition (FAC), Music Managers Forum (MMF), Musicians’ Union (MU), and We Are The Unheard (WATU).
Together, we are committed to raising awareness about the mental health resources available to everyone working in music.
As Allies, these organisations will collaborate with us to develop new resources and host events throughout the year, fostering a stronger sense of connection and community around mental wellbeing in music.
In 2024, Music Minds Matter supported over 3,300 people who needed support with their mental health. However, research shows that individuals working in the music industry may be up to three times more likely to experience depression compared to the general population. This underscores the critical need for initiatives like Music Minds Matter Allies, helping us ensure that those in need know where to seek support.
Long-term financial support from the Christopher Meredith Foundation and PPL, including a recent donation from the PPL Giving Fund, combined with the clinical supervision of the British Association of Performing Arts Medicine (BAPAM), helps the charity to deliver a breadth of support and highlights the importance of industry collaboration for collective impact.
